1 Timothy 5:1-25

v1-2) It seems that these instructions are not limited to only believers, but to all people. The command then is to treat everyone as family.
v3-7) Very strong verses about putting our religion into practice and by repaying parents/grandparents. Are we providing for those relatives/family members in need?
v11-15) Reminder to not say things we ought not to.
v17-19) May God continue to bless and provide for Pastor Sam Song, Pastor Sam Kim, and Pastor Nate Chung.

David Woo had the following comment(via email): What's the take on verse 22? That is, if we are not to be hasty in the laying on of hands, how do we exercise patience in doing so?

Response:
Maybe the following NASB translation will help shed some light: "Do not lay hands upon anyone too hastily and thereby share responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself free from sin."

Also some commentary from "Wesley's Notes": That is, appoint no man to church offices without full trial and examination; else thou wilt be accessary to, and accountable for, his misbehaviour in his office.

And it seems similar with what is expressed with regards to the selection of deacons in 1 Timothy 3:10: "They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons."

Perhaps there is a principle here we can apply to the rest of our lives: to not rashly do anything, but instead to bring the item to the Lord in prayer and wait upon Him for His direction.

Yeah, the translation made things much clearer - thank you.

2 Timothy 1: 6-7 has a tidbit that bears meditating on in what we're talking about. It's the devotion for October 22nd.

Paul encourages us to lay hands!! Incredible! We lay hands because what God has given us is of power, love and self-discipline. When we're sure the Holy Spirit is leading, laying hands is for developing your gift as well. The person on the other end of your obedience will also be greatly blessed.
