Titus 2:1-15

v9-10) Why did Paul speak of slavery?

Slavery was common in Paul's day. Paul did not condemn slavery in any of his letters, but he advised slaves and masters to be loving and responsible in their conduct. The standards set by Paul can help any employee/employer relationship. Employees should always do their best work and be trustworthy, not just when the employer is watching.

Today I found myself meditating on self-control.

Self-control in its various forms was mentioned at least four times and is strongly encouraged in this passage. I find that many of the time I've seen it highlighted in our OYB and even the relationship seminar we had this weekend.

Galatians 5:22-23 says that self-control is part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. And I find it encouraging that self-control is not some harsh discipline we must practice ourselves, but as P. Bob Oh says, it comes with time, as the Holy Spirit continues to nurture us.

Take heart that as you spend time with God and fellowship with the Holy Spirit, He is building you up and even seeing to it that you are growing so that you can stand up against temptations, worldly passions and the like. He is making sure that even after He has made us His children in name, He is also making sure we are His children by purifying and refining us.

Our Abba (Father) is so good.
